About Prepper Field Guide
Prepper Field Guide is a working preparedness library, not a news blog and not a gear store with articles attached. It exists for one reason: most households are three ordinary days away from a problem they could have solved in an afternoon, with a water container, a written plan, and numbers they trust. This site publishes the numbers, the plans, and the tools to run them, in the open, with the sources named.
Who Publishes It
Prepper Field Guide is published by FORAGE WITH ME LLC, a New York limited liability company, and written and maintained by the Prepper Field Guide Cadre, the small editorial team behind the guides, calculators, and news wire. The site is based in the Northeast, and its seasonal guidance, from winter outage planning to declination values for map and compass work, is written for Northeast conditions first and adapted carefully for everyone else.
Reader mail is read by a person. Corrections, questions, and field reports go to prepperfieldguide@gmail.com, and a correction that checks out is made in the open, on the page, with the date changed.
How Our Guides Are Made
Every field guide on this site follows the same source discipline, in this order:
- Federal and state agency guidance first: FEMA and Ready.gov for readiness planning, CDC and EPA for water and health, USDA for food safety and storage, NOAA and the National Weather Service for weather, USGS for seismic and water data, and the FCC for radio rules.
- Manufacturer documentation second: stove, filter, radio, and generator instructions outrank opinions, including ours.
- Field practice third: where a guide describes a technique, it is written the way it is actually done, with the failure modes named, not just the success story.
- If two sources disagree, the guide follows the more conservative one and says why.
Each guide carries its publication or review date, a direct answer up top for readers in a hurry, and the full method below it. The SHTF News Wire runs on a stricter rule still: every item links to the original report it came from, agency sources first, and an item that cannot be verified does not run. The wire is refreshed several times a day when events warrant it, and its reporting rolls up into a weekly newsletter. Guides are reviewed on a rolling cycle and whenever an agency changes the underlying guidance.
What Is Free and What Is Paid
Free, no account needed
The full field guide library, the SHTF News Wire, the foraging atlas, the topographic map and route planner, and the core calculators. Free pages carry the complete method, not a teaser.
Paid printables and VIP
The shop sells printable PDF workbooks and binders for people who want the system on paper, and VIP unlocks the advanced tool suites. Paid products package and extend the same doctrine; they never gate a safety-critical fact.
Safety and Limits
Everything here is educational. Nothing on this site is medical, legal, or engineering advice, and no guide outranks your local emergency management, your clinician, or the instructions that came with your equipment. In an emergency, call 911. For a poisoning, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Before any digging, call 811. Wild plants and mushrooms are never eaten on the strength of a photograph, ours included. The full standards live on our Terms and Safety Disclaimers and Privacy and Security Standards pages.
Start with the guided path. It sequences the whole library into seven steps, water first, each with one action you can finish today.
